My name is Rogier van der Hoeven. I was born in the Netherlands in 1977 and I am living on La Isla Bonita since 2005. I am married to a Palmera with whom I have a son since 2009. I am a Civil Engineer and in addition to my technical work, I also work as a real estate agent.
The beginning in the Netherlands
I studied Civil Engineering at the University in The Hague and obtained my diploma in Civil Engineering (Bachelor), which has also been recognized in Spain. During the first part of my career I worked as a Technical Engineer in the technical office of Rotterdam in the Netherlands. There I was involved in street renovation projects, industrial park mapping and infrastructure studies.
My new life on La Palma
After meeting my current wife during one of my many visits to La Palma, I moved to La Palma in 2005. During my time as a tour guide I got to know the island even better and also got a good idea of what attracts mainland Europeans to the island. Something that is very useful in my actual job as a real estate agent today!
Civil Engineer on an employed basis
In 2006 I started working as a Civil Engineer at Agrovial Consultores, a local engineering firm. I worked there until 2013 and I was involved in project and report preparation, enforcement of local laws and regulations, and permitting procedures. A great way to get to know the island, its canals and official legislation!
Self-employed Civil Engineer
Due to the economic crisis, in 2013 I was forced to continue on a freelance basis, working for private clients and public agencies. This step brought out the best in me and I also delved deeper into the real estate market, helped by being quadrilingual, my extensive knowledge of the island and all the processes involved in the real estate sector. Originally I worked with a partner under the name La Palma Vacant, but in October 2023 I continued alone under the new format La Palma Casas.
